Alex Magala, a Moldovan-born sword swallower, is widely recognized as one of the most dangerous acts in the history of Britain’s Got Talent. His act, which combines sword swallowing with acrobatics, was deemed too hazardous for live performance on the show, leading to a ban on his full routine during the live semi-final. Despite this, he performed a modified version, revealing a significant injury—a long cut across his left arm—during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, highlighting the extreme risks involved in his stunts. His official website states that the sword is positioned just one centimetre from his heart during swallowing, underscoring the life-threatening nature of his performance. Magala has a history of performing on various Got Talent shows worldwide, including winning Russia’s Got Talent and appearing on America’s Got Talent, where he was hailed as “The Best Sword Swallower in the World” by the judges. He also performed during the opening ceremony of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The act drew complaints to the broadcasting regulator Ofcom, but the regulator cleared ITV, noting that adequate warnings were provided to viewers.
