According to Howie Mandel, \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d may have discovered \u00abthe new Elvis of country\u00bb in Drake Milligan. The 23-year-old singer and his band took the stage during Season 17\u2019s second audition episode, performing Milligan\u2019s original single, \u00abSounds Like Something I\u2019d Do.\u00bb The audience erupted in applause from the very first note, and the judges, who unanimously voted \u00abYes,\u00bb remarked that the song already had the makings of a Top 40 hit.<\/p>\n

\u00abFor me, a good song is a good song, and you\u2019re very likable,\u00bb Simon Cowell commented.<\/p>\n

Heidi Klum added, \u00abI also love that you guys are a band. We don\u2019t have many bands on the show yet, so I think you\u2019re perfect for America\u2019s Got Talent.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Milligan, who hails from Ft. Worth, Texas, shared that his inspiration to become a singer came from none other than Elvis Presley. \u00abWhen I was about seven, I saw an Elvis impersonator while out with my family, and I was mesmerized. That\u2019s when I knew I wanted to be like Elvis,\u00bb Milligan recalled.<\/p>\n

He already has a debut album<\/h4>\n

Milligan\u2019s self-titled EP was released in 2021, featuring five original tracks, including his audition song \u00abSounds Like Something I\u2019d Do.\u00bb The EP is available on all major streaming platforms. On his website, Milligan shared his musical influences.<\/p>\n

\u00abMy main inspirations are George Strait and Elvis, along with Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, and George Jones. That\u2019s the music I grew up with,\u00bb he explained. \u00abI\u2019ve learned that the best sad songs are bittersweet but still hopeful. That\u2019s the magic of country music\u2014how even sad songs make you feel understood. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Originally from Ft. Worth, Milligan moved to Nashville to pursue his musical ambitions. \u00abI couldn\u2019t have made this record in Texas. Nashville is home to the best songwriters and musicians in the world. While I never want to lose my Texas roots, there\u2019s nowhere like Nashville,\u00bb he shared on his website. \u00abI came here because my heroes did. The people who wrote and played my favorite songs are still at the top of their game. Writing with them was a rite of passage for me.\u00bb<\/p>\n
